DESCRIPTION:Click here to register. \nDariusz Popiela is an Olympian canoeist\, a Polish\, European and world champion and creator of “Centrum” Foundation. In his project “People\, not numbers” he represents and communicates  the scale of the Shoah by listing names of victims and recovering their individual stories. So far the Foundation has honoured over 2500 victims. \n  \n \nJakub Nowakowski was born and raised in Kazimierz\, the former Jewish district of Kraków. Coming from a non-Jewish family that lived in Kazimierz for generations\, from early age he was compelled to research the history of his neighbourhood. \nIn 2007 he graduated from the Department of Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University. In 2010\, after an international competition\, Nowakowski was appointed the Galicia Jewish Museum’s director. Learn about her bestselling book “First They Killed My Father”\, and the critically acclaimed 2017 Netflix Original Movie directed by Angelina Jolie based on her memoir. \nBorn in 1970 to a middle-class family in Phnom Penh\, Loung Ung was only five years old when the Khmer Rouge Soldiers stormed into her city and her family was forced out of their home in a mass evacuation to the countryside. By 1978\, the Khmer Rouge had killed Ung’s parents and two of her siblings. In 1980\, she and her older brother escaped by boat to Thailand\, where they spent five months in a refugee camp. \nLoung’s first memoir\, the national best-seller “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers” (Harper Perennial)\, details her survival of Cambodia’s killing fields\, one of the bloodiest episodes of the twentieth century.
