2022 marks the 80th anniversary of “Aktion Reinhard” – the German plan to murder all the Jews of Poland living in the General Government. To mark this anniversary, the Galicia Jewish Museum, the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre and the Ghetto Fighters House invite you to a programme titled, 80 Years After “Aktion Reinhard”: The Industrial Killing of European Jewry – a series of four online lectures given by some of the most recognised scholars in this field, each one focusing on a different aspect of the Holocaust and related to this key event.
During the last event we will discuss issues related to memory. What Do We Remember? How Do We Remember? Who Remembers? Prof. James Young will describe the process of commemoration at the Concentration and Death Camps itself. Prof Omer Bartov will look at the processes of transmission of the memory of the Holocaust in Israel. Finally, an activist Dariusz Poplela will show how small communities and nongovernmental organisations work together to bring back the memory of the Holocaust in the context of rural Poland today.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Edyta Gawron of the Jagiellonian University.
