5:00 for 5:30 pm

The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, and Issy’s Coffee & Gifts invites you to A Reading and Conversation with Pie-Pacifique Kabalira-Uwase.
Poet, author, and scholar, Pie-Pacifique Kabalira-Uwase will read from and discuss Witnessing: From the Rwandan Tragedy to Healing in South Africa — his account of living through the civil war in Rwanda and the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Published by Kwela Books, the memoir traces the perspective of a boy growing up amid armed conflict, and the battle to forge an identity as an adult carrying that history.
Having arrived in South Africa as a refugee and worked as a car guard before becoming a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, Kabalira-Uwase brings to his writing a journey marked by loss, displacement, and hard-won resilience. He is also passionate about Problem-Based Business Development and Sales, being the Founder and Director of PEM Afurika, a Consulting Partner at Whitten & Roy Partnership, and a member of the Jesuit Refugee Service International Administrative Council.
