Twinning Programmes

Youth & Adult Twinning Programmes

Of the 6 million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust, 1.5 million of them were children. These children didn’t have a chance to live their lives or to fulfill their hopes and dreams.

The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre’s twinning programme aims to help Bar and Bat Mitzvah participants to learn about the Holocaust in a personal way, through researching and honouring the life of one child who didn’t have a chance to reach this important milestone. This project adds further depth and empathy to Holocaust education, and offers the participant the opportunity to experience the values of kavod (honour), chased (kindness), and tzedakah (charity).

Participants of the programme receive a certificate, as well as suggestions on how to further integrate the programme into their celebration.

Adult Twinning

We also have a new programme on offer, where people who are commemorating a special event in their lives can make this occasion even more memorable and meaningful by twinning with an individual whose life was cut short due to the tragic events of the Holocaust.

A special certificate will be given to each participant with their “twin’s” name and the occassion of the twinning. We could also include a personalised guided tour of our Permanent Exhibition for the participant, their family and friends.
